General Pet Surgery Information:

The earliest that we accept surgery patients is 8 a.m. and we like all surgical patients to be at the clinic before 8:30 a.m., unless other arrangements are made ahead of time! For most of our surgical procedures your pet will go home the day of surgery. With some procedures your pet may require further hospitalization.

All pets besides diabetic patients need to be fasted prior to surgery. No food, including treats, aren't allowed after 10 p.m. the night prior to surgery, water is fine. Please bring along a meal that we can feed to your pet after surgery.

If your pet is taking medication and you are not able to give it to them with out food, please bring it with you and our staff would be happy to administer the medication to your pet! Please note that we will ask what medications your pet is currently taking.

Surgical patients have a physical exam, pre-anesthetic blood work, pre-surgical ECG, an IV catheter, IV fluids during the procedure, and pain management. All patients are monitored by one of our CVTs using capnography, pulse oximetry, heart rate, respiratory rate, temperature and EKG monitoring to ensure the safety of your pet.

For our diabetic patients, an additional blood test called a Fructosamine will be added to all pre-anesthetic blood work, and a urine sample will be required prior to surgery. Instructions for insulin administration will be given to you based off of your pets lab results. For diabetic cats, do not fast overnight, instead remove access to food right away in the morning but allow access to water at all times. For diabetic dogs, withhold food 8 hours prior to anesthesia, allow your pet to have access to water. Your pet's blood glucose level will measured though out the day.

Please know that if you no-call/no-show for a scheduled surgery, a $150 fee will be applied to your account, as we reserve dedicated surgical time and staff specifically for your pet. Going forward if a surgery needs to be scheduled, a deposit of $150 will be required to secure the surgery appointment time. This will be applied to the procedure, however, this deposit will be non-refundable in the event of another no-call/no-show and may result in us not being able to schedule surgical procedures for you pet.

Please call with any and all questions that you may have prior to your pet's surgical procedure.

Attached below is a copy of our Anesthesia Consent Form if you would like to review prior to surgery.
